Radiant Barrier

Radiant barrier comes in a spray or paper form. Radiant barrier’s purpose is to reduce heat transfer from the radiation of the sun into the attic of the home. Radiant barrier helps to reduce the temperature in the attic, causing energy bills to go down and increasing comfort in the home.

How is radiant barrier applied?

Radiant barrier can be applied in the form of a spray or paper. Both applications have pros and cons.

Spray radiant barrier.

The spray radiant barrier has a lower E value than the paper radiant barrier. However the coverage with the radiant barrier spray is much higher in most attics because of the difficulty of installing the paper radiant barrier.

Paper radiant barrier.

The paper radiant barrier has a higher E value than the spray. However, the paper radiant barrier is much more labor intensive to install and cannot always be installed 100% effectively in all attics. It is also help up by staples which can cause the paper to fall down over time because of corrosion.
